Start from Kandy, travel up to Poojapitiya and turn to the road leading to Ankumbura, to reach this temple located about two and a half kilometers down the way.

The temple was built by King Walagamba in his second tenure, that is, between 89-76 B.C. This is yet another classic example of the characteristic doorframe architecture seen in Len Vihara temples. The stone-carved doorframe in the Sinha Rupa Viharaya shows architectural resemblances to those found at the Dambulu Viharaya.
