The historic Suriyagoda Raja Maha Viharaya, known today as Suriyagoda Sri Narendrasinharamaya, is situated in the Ganga Palatha Suriyagoda Grama Niladhari Division in the Yatinuwara Divisional Secretariat. In the early days the Suriyagoda Village was known as Kadaroda Gama or Kadaroddagama.

The historic Suriyagoda Raja Maha Viharaya, known today as Suriyagoda Sri Narendrasinharamaya, is situated in the Ganga Palatha Suriyagoda Grama Niladhari Division in the Yatinuwara Divisional Secretariat. In the early days the Suriyagoda Village was known as Kadaroda Gama or Kadaroddagama.

In one dispatch given to the Suriyagoda Temple during the Kingdom of Kandy era, the Suriyagoda Village has been referred to as ‘Badarigama’ and ‘Suriyatthala Grama.’ A Charter issued in 1781 denoting a royal grant of land for this venue by King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe is in the possession of the Temple to date.

The Prathima Ghar (house of statues), Chaitya, Seema Malakaya, Dharma Shala, Siripa Vihara and monks’ quarters being situated within a single building complex is an outstanding feature of this Temple.
A wooden doorframe decorated with carvings exemplifying ancient craftsmanship is seen at the entrance to the Temple’s museum featuring a large collection of valuable artifacts in connection with the Venerable Weliwita Sri Saranankara Sangha Raja Thero.
