Located in the Ihala Yatawara Grama Niladhari Division of the Pathadumbara DS Division, this temple has been built atop a scenic little knoll in the middle of a forest, near a picturesque waterfall.

The rock cave, where the Arahat Maliyadeva, the last Arahat in Sri Lanka lived, has also become part of this temple. The placid, scenic setting of the temple attracts large numbers of tourists as well as pilgrims.

Although the temple has been renovated at present, the antique grandeur of the cave, where the Arahat resided, the frescoes on the interior rock walls, and the ancient Bodhiya remains well-conserved. Venerable Pamunuwe Dhammarathana Thero, Sangha Nayaka of Pathadumbara is the current Chief Incumbent of this temple, coming within the Order of the Asgiriya Maha Viharaya.
